Wildlife Ponds Creation and Management
The creation of natural (i.e. unlined) ponds and small lakes on a field or woodland scale.
During the day we will be looking at:
- initial site survey
- water sources
- design (shape, islands, margins, depths)
- costs
- planning permission
- excavation
- dams and banks
- inflow and silt traps
- outflow, level control and drainage
- flooding
- stocking with plants and fish
- effect of predators
- ongoing management
We will visit several ponds of differing sizes and styles during the day.
