A two-day honey beekeeping course for beginners

You will gain a wealth of bee keeping information during this course, including:

  • Examination and description of beekeeping equipment required.
  • Considerations when setting up an apiary.
  • Examination of the principal parts and functions of the hive.
  • The functions of the queen bee, workers and drones in the life of the colony.
  • Demonstration of the use of a smoker when opening a hive.
  • The beekeeping year.
  • Swarms and swarm control.
  • Diseases of the Honeybee.

The British Beekeepers Association (BBKA) works to promote bees and beekeeping and provide a range of services to its members.

The North Devon Branch of the Bee Keeping Association is one of the oldest and most active beekeeping branches within the Devon Beekeepers Association, and is certainly the largest, with some 130 members.
